Options to set up journal alerts:

  • The homepages of most journals have an option to sign up for new content alerts (eTOCS). You will usually have to register. Some publishers allow alerts from multiple publications. Alerting options typically include email or RSS feeds (RSS feeds can be viewed within a browser or mobile aggregator app, see this article for more information).
  • Journal Alerts via Discovery: This will send you a Table of Contents when each new issue of the journal is published online.  You will be prompted to sign up for an account.
      • ·Navigate to the MNCLHD Discovery Site via our Webpage or click here.
      •  Click on the Journals Tab and Search for the Journal you wish to receive alerts for.
    •

      • Click on “Activate Journal Alert” at the bottom of the journal listing.

  • Ovid journals: eTOC's can be sent from journals within the Ovid interface. This has the advantage of allowing immediate full text access to journals within the library's collection, although the Ovid journal list is not comprehensive. You will need to open a personal account.
      • Navigate to the Ovid page via CIAP>Databases>Medline (or Embase/Emcare or PsycINFO).
      • Log into Ovid (or create an account)
      • Table of contents can be created by searching for the journal name and saving the search as an alert.

If you have more than one journal for which you wish to receive alerts, you can search them individually and combine those searches with OR.
        Step One:

        Step Two:

Create a name for your Search and select AutoAlert Options.  You can review your Saved Searches by clicking on "View Saved".

Alternatively Journal TOCs is a free service which allows you to sign up for new content alerts for multiple journals.  eTOCs from this site do not link directly to full text of articles (video below).  When you receive an email alert, the abstract for the article is included. You can request the full-text article from the library if you wish.
